Inge Panneels is a local Artist and Academic based in Lilisleaf in the Scottish Borders. As an Artist, she creates glass designs for various clients.
One piece that she done was a collaboration titled, "Bricks". This is a window design for a Georgian house in Edinburgh, it is 3.2meters high by 1.3meters wide. Another request was for Panneel to create 3 differently designed lightboxes out of glass to be placed in various waiting rooms in a Hospital. Each design was simple but nice to look at.
"The walk" is a piece of glass artwork inspired by the work of William Wordsworth and Basho, both poets who created work on walking. The Artwork is 3 pieces of coloured glass placed in a row in light to dark.
"Liverpool Map" is another collaborative project with Jeffrey Sarmients. It is a map of Liverpool, measuring 2.1mx33cmx5cm. It celebrates the legacy of City of Culture 2008.
There are various other projects which Panneels has worked on but one of my favourite is the Jurgen Doom, mercator micro macro. It consists of two different colours of glass, cut together then pieced together like a jigsaw. The image is digitally drawn then cut with a water edge cutter, this uses water edge technology and traditional craft then the glass is made smaller by heating it then it is made into a ring.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938) was a German Artist, known as one of Germany's talented most talented and influential expressionists. In 1901, he began studying at architecture, this is where he met fellow students Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Erich Heckel. In 1905, they formed a group called Die Brucke, (The bridge). The group decided to steer away from traditional painting styles and create a new style of expression through painting. One of the famous works from this time was Nude Dancers (Nackte Tanzerinnen) (1909). After a few years, Ernst decided to find his own identity as an Artist, this is where he became interested in industrialization and alienation felt by individuals in cities. In 1915, he produced a series of paintings inspired by the energetic life of modern Berlin. He used expressive brushstrokes of blue, green, orange and pink and figures arranged in various positions. Some of his most famous work include, Nude Dancers (1909), Deutsch Nollendorfplatz (1912), Street, Berlin (1913) and Blick of Davos (1924).
I found it interesting to see wood paintings for a different style of paintings. The vibrant colours and nice to look at and the curved lines make the paintings more unique. I also find the lack of detail and facial expression interesting. The images still present alot of character and feeling.

Self portrait exploring chiaroscuro
I learned that chiaroscuro was using light and dark to create an image. I thought that charcoal would be the best medium to use. I began this image with hope but felt it was too messy so I abandoned the idea. I then used charcoal pencils on another image. I think this one worked better but could still do with improving. I feel that I could produce a better image with paint.
